Happy New Year's Eve 2008! In my world, there are still 95 minutes until 2009 rings in. I've stolen a few minutes away from the family festivities to check in with you here. I haven't had the mental time or capacity to reflect on the year or look forward to the New Year so I'll content myself on simply conveying to you what our household (now including my brother, Tom, his wife Erin, and his kids Ashleigh and Jake) has been enjoying through the last couple of days. I love having members of my family around me and if that means that my blog goes unattended, then I must simply apologize to you. I will be back in full force soon enough!
Our winery-hopping on Monday was fabulous (an activity for the adults and immensely enjoyed as such—with photos to follow!), our island-hopping yesterday was super (Whidbey) (and with photos to follow!), and our channel-hopping tonight has been great, along with superb food.
We celebrated the New Year (to this point) with Erin's Italian great-grandmother's 'Sauce' recipe and meatballs that we promptly made into lasagne. It was WONDERFUL. Since Emily is allergic to wheat, we made a mini-lasagne for her with wheat-free pasta. Erin was dubbed the Sauce-Meatball Wench, Emily was dubbed the Pasta Wench, and I was dubbed the Cheese Wench. We Wenches made a couple of MEAN lasagnes! And Andy (the eldest's beau) took some great photos!
Here's some of the highlights …
Ben … trying to get in on the fun, but not the work!
Erin thought, "I have meatball meat all over my hand… I'm going to smear it on Ben's face!" And she did!
Ben starts to take revenge, upsetting Erin's ever-so-stylish hat …
Emma can't contain herself and 'erupts' into laughter while she observes the hilarity that ensues …
… then decides to help her Auntie clean her face of all meat products. Which is a good thing. Meat products don't make good skin care ingredients.
Our meal was wonderful … full of flavorful food and enhanced by stimulating conversation.
We've since cleaned up the dinner dishes, but the Tiramisu has yet to be revealed! That's what I'm off to do …
In the meantime, I leave you with an image meant to keep you in line:
Yeah! That finger is pointing at YOU!! Heed the warning, folks!
Back later with more photos and recipes!
